Whew, sorry to leave you guys and gals hanging with no idea of where I was. Thank you for the emails of concern. We are OK. My wife left for a mission trip in Peru leaving me and my wonderful little girl to fend for our self a whole week. In the mean time I had an investment deal I was trying to work (more on that later). My day job was wild the last two weeks and just when I thought it could get no more hectic DVDNow sent me a bad batch of RFID tags. My next post will alert you to the troubles of bad RFID tags.
Thanks for your understanding and patience. I have not been blogging long enough to have a the number of posts queed for such an extended rainy season. I hope to return to somewhat of a normal schedule next week.

Does anyone make a real profit from running these machines? We just bought three machines after doing significant research minus the answer mentioned. No one has really said that a profit was made as a independent owner of the kiosk. Just want to stay excited about about of imminent venture.

Welcome back!
I actually bought 2 kiosks myself and is embarking a similar journey.
Here in Australia, I found it hard to source DVDs at a good discount rate. Thus far, I’ve only searched for suppliers via Google and on average a new release would cost AUD $33 and they only give me 5% discount. They’re not happy to buyback either! And since it is Region 4, I could only source DVDs locally or South America!!
Do you get a better deal over there in US?

Rod - yes and no. Yes, I have talked to people that are doing quite well. No, I have not made a profit yet. I am making a tad more than break even, but not paying off the machine by far. My issues are advertising in the community. There are not a lot of options that are financially sound. Good luck with your venture.

Jason,
I purchase DVDs for 19.00 ~ 19.80 per. I do get a buy back for $5.50 within 90 days. Not sure about the conversion between AUD and USD.
Are they going to buy back?

I was told I’d be lucky to get AUD $7 for a DVD which I bought at AUD $30. And that is if it is within 4 weeks. Anything beyond becomes harder to sell.
I think I’m not approaching the right suppliers, I’ve only Googled them so far. And only 1 supplier offered buy back with the above conditions.
Shawn, are you DVDs in good condition when you sell them? Minor scratches perhaps? Someone suggested using d-Skin to prevent the DVD from being scratched and this same supplier told me it wasn’t worth it as it jams up DVD machines. I’m looking at other similar solutions. Either that or I try to sell them off soon enough (say 4 weeks).
What do you reckon?

Jason,
Most of the DVDs are in fair condition. People do treat the DVDs rough. Most of them will play all the way through with no problem though.

Shawn,
Who do you buy your DVD from for $19 with buyback?
Thanks
